Job Description Inspects, assembles, packages and sterilizes surgical instrument pans, procedural trays, technical equipment, and surgical case carts for the OR focusing primarily on the Pod specific instrumentation. Operates sterilizers, prepares and dispenses sterile items; performs inspection, adjusting, cleaning and general servicing of instruments and equipment for the OR, internal hospital departments and off-site agencies to insure instruments and equipment are operating properly prior to issuing. Serve as the primary contact for pod specific Vendors with relation to inventory levels, timely deliveries and pickups. Actively communicate with vendor and OR regarding needs to ensure accuracy and availability of instrumentation for case volumes. The decisions made by the Instrument/Vendor Coordinator and the interpersonal skills used to implement those decisions must foster a collaborative environment amongst surgeons, vendors, SPD customers and employees. Can precept and mentor new employees.
Education: High school diploma or GED Required, Associates or Bachelors preferred
Experience: Three years’ experience in SPD/MPD or equivalent education/Operating Room experience demonstrating progressive knowledge and leadership skills.
License/Certification Required: Certification required from a nationally recognized Sterile Processing Technician program, or 20+ years of Sterile Processing experience. If not certified, must obtain within three months from date of hire.
Skills: Able to understand written and oral direction as well as interpret equipment operation instructions.
If internal applicant: completed SPD Technician III application.
